A Constraint-Based Method for Project Scheduling with Time Windows

چکیده
This paper presents a heuristic algorithm for solving RCPSP/max, the resource constrained project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations. The algorithm relies, at its core, on a constraint satisfaction problem solving (CSP) search procedure, which generates a consistent set of activity start times by incrementally removing resource conflicts from an otherwise temporally feasible solution. Key to the effectiveness of the CSP search procedure is its heuristic strategy for conflict selection. A conflict sampling method biased toward selection of minimal conflict sets that involve activities with higher-capacity requests is introduced, and coupled with a non-deterministic choice heuristic to guide the base conflict resolution process. This CSP search is then embedded within a larger iterative-sampling search framework to broaden search space coverage and promote solution optimization. The efficacy of the overall heuristic algorithm is demonstrated empirically on a large set of previously studied RCPSP/max benchmark problems. ∗ Published in: Journal of Heuristics, 8(1):109-136, 2002.

AN EFFECTIVE METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUSLY CONSIDERING TIME-COST TRADE-OFF AND CONSTRAINT RESOURCE SCHEDULING USING NONLINEAR INTEGER FRAMEWORK
Critical Path Method (CPM) is one of the most popular techniques used by construction practitioners for construction project scheduling since the 1950s. Despite its popularity, CPM has a major shortcoming, as it is schedule based on two impractical acceptance that the project deadline is not bounded and that resources are unlimited. The analytical competency and computing capability of CPM thus...
متن کاملThe resource-constraint project scheduling problem of the project subcontractors in a cooperative environment: Highway construction case study
Large-scale projects often have several activities which are performed by subcontractors with limited multi-resources. Project scheduling with limited resources is one of the most famous problems in the research operations and optimization cases. The resource-constraint project scheduling problem (RCPSP) is a NP-hard problem in which the activities of a project must be scheduled to reduce the p...
متن کاملOptimization of Time, Cost, and Quality in Critical Chain Method Using Simulated Annealing (RESEARCH NOTE)
In the last decade, theory of constraint application in project management lead to make a new approach for project scheduling and control as a critical chain. In this paper, a multi-objective optimization model for multi-project scheduling on critical chain is investigated. The objectives include time, cost and quality. In order to solve the problem, a Simulated Annealing algorithm is developed...
متن کاملA multi-objective resource-constrained project scheduling problem with time lags and fuzzy activity durations
The resource-constrained project scheduling problem is to find a schedule that minimizes the project duration subject to precedence relations and resource constraints. To further account for economic aspects of the project, one may add an objective of cash nature to the problem. In addition, dynamic nature and variations in real world are known to introduce uncertainties into data. Therefore, t...

The aim of a multi-mode resource-constrained project scheduling problem (MRCPSP) is to assign resource(s) with the restricted capacity to an execution mode of activities by considering relationship constraints, to achieve pre-determined objective(s). These goals vary with managers or decision makers of any organization who should determine suitable objective(s) considering organization strategi...
